Well, we have been back in the U.S. for a few weeks, sorry I haven't updated in a little while. We've been traveling in between parents and we're heading down to Florida this weekend to see my little brother graduate college. Crazy, I don't feel that old. Anyways, one of the reasons we returned home early is so we can travel around America and enjoy the beautiful sights, but I am finding myself dealing with a combination of re-entry shock and uncertainty about our situation. This amounts to a lot of anxiety, which is something I don't deal with very well. So, pray that God would show me how big He really is if you wouldn't mind. My fallen mind so easily forgets. Also, I'll leave you with 4 things I am happy for being back home.
For those of you who knew me at ages 5 - 9, I used to seriously ponder the outcome of a fight to the death between two equally equipped animals. I was forever asking my dad such things as, "If a bear and a lion fought, who would win?" Obviously there are many factors, but it is still a great question (at least I think) that maybe only the Romans will ever know. However, I took a stroll down memory lane today when I noticed two of my boys arguing in the back of the class. When I asked them what they were quarreling over, one boy looked at me and with a serious expression and that innocence that makes us wonder why we stopped being kids asked, "Teacher, if a scorpion and a tarantula fought, who would win?" With all my wisdom and knowledge, and being a bachelor's degree smarter, I put on my best thinking face, and staring him right in the eyes said, "What do you think?"
So, give me your insight on such a match, and if you have ever pitted two ferocious beasts against each other, let me know what the outcome was in your mind.
Well, for those of you who don't know, Ruth and I will be coming home on the 30th of March. We are very excited about being back in the U.S., but sad about leaving our time in Korea. The school we work with let's us choose to leave between 6 months and 1 year, and while financially it would be a better choice to stay the whole year, we have lived a pretty frugal overseas life and are satisfied with 8 months. This being said, we are planning a road trip around the U.S. when we get back, and hope to spend a month or so with family. I will post a couple more times before we leave, but here are five things I will miss about Korea.
5. The safety. Korea is one of the safest places in the world. We see kids wandering around the streets and parks at almost all hours of the night.
4. The food. I don't enjoy all of the food, but I have grown attached to the healthier selection of Korean foods.
3. Living in the city. Everything is at your fingertips.
2. Public transportation. Ruth and I haven't had a car for 8 months, and we have travelled all over our city and the capital, not to mention across the country. An unspeakable idea for almost any American.
1. Friends we have made. We have gotten to know Will and Joanna Green while we have been here, as well as the foreigners at our school. You hate to think that they may and probably won't ever be a significant part of your lives again. Something inside us seems to desire eternity when it comes to relationships, and so leaving them behind only makes it harder.
Ruth and I watched the movie Music and Lyrics a couple of days ago with Hugh Grant. Wasn't the greatest of movies, in fact it was pretty terrible, but the 80's music video they pulled off was fantastic. So, here it is, for your viewing pleasure. And by the way, Ruth and I are doing great. We are leaving in one month to come back to the good 'ol U.S. of A. I can taste the Taco Bell now.
